The BMW 228i comes equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. Performance numbers on the engine are rated at 240 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque. In the fuel economy department, this engine checks in at an estimated 23 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon on the highways. These numbers remain the same when the car is equipped with all-wheel drive, a feature that normally causes fuel economy to drop.

BMW 3 Series Fuel Economy Ratings
The BMW 3 Series continues this impressive run of high fuel economy ratings. 320i models are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that offers 180 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque while earning 24 city/36 highway miles per gallon. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is also available on the 328i, where it earns 23 city/35 highway.
340i models move up to a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine that is still able to to break the 30-mile-per-gallon mark on the highways, earning an estimated 22 city/33 highway miles per gallon.
These turbocharged and efficient engines continue to make appearances on the rest of the BMW lineup. When the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder is nestled under the hood of the 428i, the car earns an estimated 23 city/35 highway miles per gallon. On the 528i, the engine can earn up to 23 city/34 highway miles per gallon.
